Reading the site. You do not need an account, and we do not ask you for anything to read it.

Cookies. We use no advertising or analytics cookies. The site sets at most two cookies, both needed for something you are doing, so they do not need your consent:

• –__Host-laksa_session, set on every visit. It keeps the site secure, by protecting its forms against forgery. It is only ever sent over an encrypted connection and cannot be read by scripts on the page.
• –__Host-laksa_voter_id, set only if you vote on a post. It is a random identifier that lets us count your vote once.

Counting what is read. We count page views and link clicks so we know what is read. We record the page or link and the time, and nothing that identifies you: no IP address, no browser details and no cookie.

The newsletter. If you subscribe, we keep your email address, how you subscribed, and when you confirmed and, if you do, unsubscribed. For each issue we send, our email provider tells us whether it was delivered, opened or clicked, or bounced. You can unsubscribe at any time from the link in every issue.

Your connection. Like any website, ours sees the IP address each request comes from. We use it only while handling the request, to limit abuse, and do not store it with anything we record.

Email to us. If you email us, we receive what you send and keep it to reply to you and for our records.

We do not sell personal data.

• –To run the website and keep it secure, and to count what is read: our legitimate interest in providing a working, secure website and knowing which of it is useful.
• –To send the newsletter: your consent, which you give by subscribing and confirming, and can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing.
• –To reply to your email: our legitimate interest in answering you, or, where you are asking about working with us, taking the steps you asked for before any contract.

These providers process personal data for us, under contract:

• –Fly.io, which hosts the website, from London;
• –MailerSend, which delivers the newsletter;
• –Google, which provides our email (Google Workspace).

Some of them process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, the transfer relies on the safeguards UK data protection law provides for it, such as adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement.

• –Newsletter: your subscription for as long as you stay subscribed; after you unsubscribe, a record that you did, so that we do not email you again.
• –Email: for as long as we need it for the reason it was sent, and as our legal obligations require.
• –Counts of page views and link clicks: these hold nothing that identifies you, so they are kept as the site's statistics.

You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict or object to our use of it, or send it to you or someone else in a portable form. Email hello@geodica.com and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113.

If what we collect or how we use it changes, we will update this notice; the date at the top shows when it last changed.
